$1,000 Scholarships Awarded to Local High School Grads

(Riverside, Calif.) July 8, 2013 – The Altura Scholarship Foundation, the educational foundation for Riverside-based Altura Credit Union, announced that it is awarding $38,000 in college scholarships to seniors who graduated from Riverside County high schools this year. Thus far, the names of 28 recipients have been released. (See below.)

Of the 38 scholarships for $1,000, 35 are directly from the Altura Scholarship Foundation. Five of those specifically recognize students in AVID programs. Plus, 10 scholarships will be awarded in August to local graduating seniors planning to attend the University of California, Riverside. In addition, three memorial scholarships were awarded.

Students are selected for scholarships based on their academic record, and an essay detailing their college goals, financial need and extracurricular activities. For more information about the scholarship program, visit the Scholarship section on Altura’s website, AlturaCU.com.

More than 200 students applied for Altura scholarships this year, which are specifically for students graduating from Riverside County high schools who plan to enroll in accredited post-secondary institutions in the fall.
