Raise Money-Smart Kids with Altura Tips

(Riverside, Calif.) Aug. 7, 2013 – Most parents want to teach money skills to their kids, but they don’t know where to begin. A free workshop from Altura Credit Union offers tips and tools that can help. “Raising Money-Smart Kids” will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 7 to 8:30 a.m., at Altura’s headquarters, 2847 Campus Parkway, Riverside.

This free workshop is the eighth in the credit union’s year-long “Breakfast With Altura” workshop series. The August class will focus on ways to teach money-management skills. Among the things that will be covered are:

• Why an allowance is a great way to start teaching kids about money

• How to lay down some rules about their allowance – decide if it will be linked to chores, if limits will be placed on what can be purchased, and if savings are required

• How to help kids create a “spending plan”

• How to teach by example

• Ways to help children become savvy consumers

• How to establish good saving habits and setting long-term as well as short-term goals
