Better Than a Bank

When you join Altura, you’re an esteemed part of our business. We’re here and ready to help you turn your financial goals into a reality. Ditch the bank and experience the Altura difference.

Not For Profit

Credit unions are cooperative organizations and we exist to meet the financial needs of our members — not to make a profit from them. It is for this reason that Congress has granted credit unions the “not-for-profit” status we enjoy today.

  • This results in lower loan rates, higher savings rates, fewer fees, and new and improved products and services
  • Tax-exempt status for credit unions

Volunteer Board

As a credit union, our Board Members are headed by a group of volunteer professionals, who are elected by our members. Our leadership board is dedicated and truly works every day with the well-being of their members and community as first priority. Unlike a corporate bank, we understand the differentiating needs of the everyday individual. Our board’s voices are heard and always valued, for every opinion and thought is different and should be attended to. We approach our leadership in a unique way that helps us move in directions to support all the different stories and members we come in contact with.

Safe Capital

Banks are permitted to grow and expand rapidly due to capital through stock sales. With credit unions, we only have one source of capital — retained earnings. This means that the money we make on loans and fees goes into our growth.

Deposit Insured

With banks, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) is a program that provides safety to millions of American consumers. Over the years, the cost of this insurance program has cost the American taxpayer over billions of dollars. With a credit union, the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF) is supported by the combined capital of all insured credit unions. Only if the capital of all insured credit unions was depleted would the federal government be asked to step in. You may be asking what this means? We’ll tell you. In short, in the entire history of the credit union movement, not one cent of taxpayer money has ever been used to bail out a credit union. Trust the facts, and Altura Credit Union to take care of all your financial needs.

Member Owned

One of the main distinctions between a credit union and a bank is that we are a member-focused institution. As a cooperative, we are owned and operated by our members opposed to stockholders at a bank. Your membership deposit gives you a stake in our company as a part-owner. We give every member the opportunity to help make decisions for Altura, its members and the community it impacts. We all work together to serve one another as equals, unlike a bank that serves one purpose: to make as much profit as possible for its stakeholders.

Giving Back

Altura has the pleasure and resources to give back to help those in their community through a variety of initiatives and programs. We are always looking for new opportunities to better the place that we call home. Check out Altura in the Community page to get involved and see how we are working to positively impact the Riverside and surrounding areas.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT PROCEDURES FOR OPENING A NEW ACCOUNT

To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. What this means for you: When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver’s license or other identifying documents.
