In Memoriam

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Joseph Calderon.

Mr. Calderon brought a wealth of experience and left an indelible legacy of leadership in his role as Chairman of the Altura Credit Union Board of Directors and as a director for more than 20 years on the board. With 30 years as a commercial airline captain and extensive leadership roles at United Airlines, he also served 28 years in the Air Force Reserves, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. His background included time as a federal law enforcement officer and leadership positions in corporate and counseling sectors. A graduate of the United States Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science, Mr. Calderon served as a director at Altura since 2000, holding all executive positions and committee assignments.

Known for his community involvement, Mr. Calderon served on numerous corporate and volunteer boards, was an adjunct professor in personal finance, and a youth coach. He was also a motivational speaker, often presenting at credit union conferences, particularly on DEI and board member training. His dedication to the credit union industry stemmed from his passion for its community-focused, not-for-profit mission and the people it attracts.

Sadly, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, Mr. Calderon passed away on February 2, 2025.

He left an enduring legacy, making a profound and lasting impact on every life he touched. His influence will always be remembered, and his charisma will continue to inspire for generations to come.
