Eliminating Fees

Life moves fast and it can be easy to lose track of where your money is going. At Altura we want to help make it easier, that’s why we’ve eliminated the following fees:

  • $29 Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) Fee*
  • $7.50 Overdraft Transfer Fee from shares and loans

Eliminating these fees can help keep you on budget and save more of your money where it belongs, in your Altura account.

Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) Transactions

No fees on any check or ACH transactions that are returned due to non-sufficient funds.

Overdraft Transfer

If you’d like the confidence in knowing your check or ACH transactions will go through, we can link your checking account to either your Altura:

  • savings account
  • credit card
  • money market account

so that those funds will be available to help cover any shortfalls. It’s your money, so why shouldn’t it be there (with no additional fees) to help you when you need it? Learn more about linking your accounts here.

FAQs

What Does NSF Mean?

If you do not have the appropriate funds to make a purchase, the bank will not automatically cover the transaction for you. Instead, you will be charged a non-sufficient funds (NSF or insufficient funds) fee. Options like courtesy pay and overdraft protection prevent you from being charged NSF fees.

How Do I Avoid Overdraft Fees?

The easiest and most effective way to avoid overdraft fees is to monitor your account. Keep track of your balance and sign up for e-alerts. Budgeting your money will also help you avoid making purchases you can’t afford. By using overdraft protection, you will always have a backup if there isn’t enough in your account to cover a transaction.

What Happens If I Exceed My Savings Account Withdrawal Limits?

If you’ve gone over your withdrawal limit a couple of times, your bank may charge you an extra fee. They might also prevent you from completing the excessive transactions. But the consequences will be even more severe if you make a habit of going over your withdrawal limit. The bank will either change your savings account into a checking account or close your savings account.

What is the Difference Between Courtesy Pay and Overdraft Protection? Is There a Courtesy Pay Fee?

Both of these services help protect you from NSF. However, the source of money is different. With courtesy pay, you are essentially paying for a transaction based on future funds. This service is only available to Members who have payroll direct deposit set up with their accounts. The credit union covers a cost because even though you don’t have the funds right now, they know you will have a direct deposit soon. To use Courtesy Pay, you will have to pay a fee. This fee is only applied when Altura needs to help you cover a transaction associated with your account. Learn more about courtesy pay.

On the other hand, overdraft protection comes from your savings account or credit card. When you don’t quite have enough in your checking account to cover a transaction, overdraft protection kicks in. There is a fee for overdraft protection. Learn more about overdraft protection.

DISCLAIMER INFORMATION

*Returned items will no longer incur the NSF fee. If you receive payroll direct deposit and Courtesy Pay is enabled on the account, your transaction may be paid and will incur a fee.
